In order to positively impact active transportation in the community, city staff recommended a commission that encompasses bicyclists, pedestrians and public transportation. The city council voted to repeal the existing bicycle commission ordinance and replace it with a new ordinance creating the Active Transportation Advisory Commission.
Changes from the previous bicycle commission include:
1. An increase in the number of members to nine mayoral appointees, up from five.
2. Clarifications regarding the status of City Administrator appointees.
3. Clarifications regarding start dates.
4. A process for determining terms of existing members.
5. Addition of active transportation language throughout.
The mayor is authorized to appoint four members to three-year terms to the commission. Existing bicycle commission members will be selected by lots for their appropriate terms.
