The City of Batavia has numerous wetlands throughout town. Some are man-made while others have been in place for many years and some were even detention basins that were retrofitted using Best Management Practices to create a wetland. Some wetlands are the responsibility of the city to maintain while the remainder is privately held by either a property association or landowner and maintained by each entity.
