On occasion, the Batavia Police Department utilizes unmanned aerial systems --commonly referred to as “drones”-- to enhance the department’s mission of protecting lives and property when other means and resources are not available or are less effective.
The State of Illinois recently passed Public Act 103-0101, which impacts regulations relating to Law Enforcement’s use of Unmanned Aerial Systems. As a result of this updated legislation, the Batavia Police Department is in the process of updating its Unmanned Aerial System policy to reflect the changes passed in Public Act 103-0101. Batavia PD will post the Department’s updated policy shortly. In the interim, the Department will comply with the laws of the State of Illinois and the regulations of the FAA.
